Sculptra^®

Most fillers have a hyaluronic acid base, using the naturally occurring sugar molecule to create a gel that easily binds to water and adds volume that is visible immediately after injection. Hyaluronic acid fillers last approximately one year, as they are gradually broken down by the enzyme hyaluronidase present in the skin.

Sculptra^® is different. It is not a hyaluronic acid-based filler, but is a poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) collagen stimulator. It stimulates fibroblasts, the collagen “factories” in our skin, to increase production of collagen, leading to a restored youthful appearance. Collagen is a very important component of the skin as it gives structure to key features on the face and creates a lattice for holding the hyaluronic acid molecules vital to healthy skin hydration.

Building collagen takes time, so the results from Sculptra^® treatments are gradual. Treatment with Sculptra^® requires a “patient” patient. Most patients looking to restore volume to their face require three to four treatment sessions every 8 to 12 weeks. Sculptra^®‘s correction lasts from 1 1/2 to 3 years.

Sculptra^® is an ideal filler for reinflation of an aged, volume-depleted face. It is commonly used for adding volume to fill in hollowed “skeletal” temples, to plump and lift flattened cheeks, and to restore definition to a sagging, jowly jawline. Sculptra^® can also fill in folds and lines that range from shallow to deep, including nasolabial folds (smile lines), mouth-framing marionette lines, and chin wrinkles.

Our injectors at Cirillo Cosmetic Dermatology Spa are experienced and committed to making the Sculptra^® experience as safe and as comfortable as possible. Each session lasts approximately 30 to 45 minutes, depending upon which area or areas are being treated.
