Until recently, dermal fillers could only be used to treat static wrinkles—the facial lines caused by volume depletion due to age or sun damage—while neuromodulators were the sole option for treating dynamic wrinkles that appear because of repetitive facial expressions. Now, there’s a new option for treating expression lines: the collection of RHA® Revance fillers. Our Bryn Mawr and Newtown Square-based team at Cirillo Cosmetic Dermatology Spa will assess your wrinkles and help you decide on the right injectable filler or neuromodulator for your needs.

What Do RHA® Revance Fillers Treat?
Each time we move our face while talking, conveying emotions, or chewing, these simple, everyday movements cause grooves to develop a little deeper in the skin. Eventually, the resulting lines become more pronounced and even visible when muscles are at rest. It might seem like squinting, frowning, or smiling only lasts for a few seconds, but each time we use our facial muscles to make an expression, the skin is pulled out of its resting state.
With the passage of time, the skin begins to get thinner and lose elasticity due to aging and exposure to environmental factors such as ultraviolet light and pollution. Our dynamic wrinkles or expression wrinkles become even more noticeable. Furthermore, both collagen and hyaluronic acid production decrease in the skin as we age, contributing to the depressions in the skin’s surface. Fillers are designed to act like a substitute for these diminishing components by physically adding volume where needed to create a smoother surface.
RHA® Revance fillers are the first facial fillers to be approved by the FDA for use on moderate to severe dynamic wrinkles and folds. RHA® Revance fillers are produced with the most leading-edge hyaluronic acid filler technology available, allowing them to be flexible enough to blend in seamlessly with normal facial movements, so your expressions look natural.
The hyaluronic acid is manufactured in a gentle way that allows it to imitate the structure of the same molecules found in your skin. It adapts well to the constant bending and stretching involved in facial movements, allowing the face to look natural both when mobile and at rest.

What Are the Different Versions of RHA® Revance Fillers Available?
The RHA® Revance fillers line consists of three different formulas: RHA® 2, RHA® 3, and RHA® 4. Each of these RHA® Revance fillers has unique applications, and different types may be better suited for specific patients.
RHA® 2
These RHA® Revance fillers are injected into the mid-to-deep area of the dermis for addressing moderate folds and wrinkles; they are best for more superficial wrinkles like perioral lines or under-eye hollows.
RHA® 3
These RHA® Revance fillers are injected into the mid-to-deep area of the dermis for addressing moderate to severe folds and wrinkles like nasolabial folds or sagging corners of the mouth (marionette lines).
RHA® 4
These RHA® Revance fillers are injected into the deep dermis area for moderate to severe wrinkles and folds, such as deep-set nasolabial folds, jawline irregularities, and cheek deflation.
RHA® Revance Filler Treatment Details
RHA® Revance fillers are injected into the areas of the skin where there is significant muscle activity that results in wrinkles. The injection process is similar to that of other fillers, with the filler being injected via a needle or cannula.
Specific treatment times vary depending on which filler is being used and which area or areas are being treated.
Expect some temporary, minor side effects that are associated with any filler procedure: bruising, swelling, and slight tenderness at the injection site.
Results are typically visible right away and can be expected to last for approximately 15 months.
What Other Injectables Are Available?
There are several other fillers and neuromodulators that can be used as an alternative to or in conjunction with RHA® Revance fillers to rejuvenate the face.
Juvederm®‘s and Restylane®‘s family of fillers and Belotero Balance® are also well-known hyaluronic acid fillers that are commonly used for reducing wrinkles, correcting jawline irregularities, and for lip and cheek augmentation.
Biostimulatory fillers like Radiesse® and Sculptra® boost collagen production for longer-lasting results.
BOTOX®, Dysport®, Xeomin®, and Jeuveau® are neuromodulators for relaxing dynamic wrinkles that occur in the upper face, such as forehead wrinkles and crow’s feet.
