Contour, Plump, and Rejuvenate Your Face with Allergan's Family of Fillers for Bryn Mawr, Newtown Square, Philadelphia, and the Main Line

The plethora of soft tissue or dermal fillers available on the market is great news for patients looking to rejuvenate, reshape, or add volume to their faces. With all of these options, an injector must have years of cosmetic dermatology training and industry knowledge to understand which fillers are best suited for each patient. To ensure that every patient receives the best possible outcome, we are extensively trained with Allergan’s flagship brand of fillers, Juvederm®, at our Bryn Mawr and Newtown Square-area cosmetic practices.

We will help you decide which fillers are best for your unique needs.

With fillers such as Juvederm®, the Cirillo Cosmetic Dermatology Spa team can treat multiple signs of aging for women and men in Bryn Mawr, Newtown Square, and the Philadelphia area. With a range of options to choose from, patients can add volume to the temples, below the eyes, in the mid-face, around the mouth and nose, directly to the lips, and along the jaw.

Juvederm® Fillers & Hyaluronic Acid

The Juvederm® family is one of the safest and most widely used brands of dermal fillers in the world. The key active ingredient in each of these FDA-approved fillers is hyaluronic acid.

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring sugar-based compound found in the human body. It has a variety of functions, such as keeping our joints lubricated, contributing to healthy fluid and moisture in our eyes, and keeping our skin soft, plump, and elastic. The vast range of uses for hyaluronic acid throughout the body makes it clear that the compound is essential to maintaining adequate moisture levels. Acting like a sponge, a single molecule of hyaluronic acid soaks up the water around it to retain moisture, holding up to 1,000 times its own weight.

Unfortunately, as we age, the body’s production of hyaluronic acid can slow down dramatically. Harsh environmental factors, such as pollution, smoking, and UV exposure, can also diminish existing levels of hyaluronic acid in our body. Over time, this reduction becomes very noticeable in our skin, resulting in the formation of wrinkles and folds, and leading to loss of facial shape, structure, and volume.

While it is produced in a laboratory, the modified form of hyaluronic acid in Juvederm® is nearly identical to that naturally found in our body, making the possibility of an adverse reaction negligible. While Juvederm® contains no collagen, the introduction of hyaluronic acid has been shown to accelerate the body’s own natural production of collagen, to maintain the skin’s elasticity and tone. Collagen, in turn, serves as a framework for hyaluronic acid, making the pair a vital part of healthy, youthful-looking skin.

Juvederm® is a clear gel, composed of different molecular weights blended in to provide its smooth, pliable consistency. This gel-like texture, compared to a liquid, can better fill in the area for a longer length of time.

Why Are There Different Formulations of Juvederm®?

The volume and softness in every part of the face is different–and, consequently, the filler texture that works for the lips may not be appropriate for the cheeks or nasolabial folds. Keeping this in mind, Allergan has created different versions of Juvederm® to enable injectors to tailor treatment protocols for each area of the face.

At Cirillo Cosmetic, we pride ourselves on being able to provide a variety of products and technologies, combined with a team of board-certified, experienced, and talented cosmetic dermatologists to maximize patient satisfaction. We offer the following products:

  • Juvederm® Ultra & Ultra Plus
  • Juvederm Vollure
  • Juvederm Voluma®
  • Juvederm Volbella®

All Juvederm® fillers are also labeled with “XC,” which means they contain lidocaine, a pain-reducing agent that minimizes injection-related discomfort for the patient.

Results may last between one to two years, depending upon which filler product is used and each patient’s unique response to the injections.

Juvederm® Ultra & Ultra Plus

Ultra is used for adding volume to the lips, giving them a fuller, plumper look that can last up to a year. This is ideal for patients who have either had thin lips their entire lives or who had more voluminous lips that have thinned with age. Ultra Plus is essentially the same, but the formula is a bit thicker, making it effective for treating nasolabial folds (parentheses lines) and marionette lines.

Juvederm Vollure

Offering longer-lasting results than previous formulations that focused on the nasolabial folds, Vollure softens moderate to severe wrinkles and lines that form around the mouth and nose. Under ideal conditions, the effects have been proven to last up to 18 months.

Juvederm Voluma®

Loss of mid-face volume leads to the development of hollows and flattened areas, as well as sagging that impacts the lowermost portion of the face by contributing to the heavy look of jowls. Voluma® restores that lost volume, creating a rounder “apple” on each cheek and giving the facial skin enough of a lift to reduce the severity of jowling.

Juvederm Volbella®

Similar to the Ultra formulation, this member of the Juvederm® family is for adding volume to the lips that lasts up to a year, but the result is more subtle. The filler can also be used to reduce the appearance of vertical lip lines.

Juvederm® Treatment Sessions

Juvederm® injections are made with precision using blunt tipped cannulas and fine needles. A typical filler treatment session varies from 30 to 60 minutes depending upon the number of areas treated.

Since volume is physically added, results are visible right away. There may be some initial swelling, but this will resolve quickly, revealing your new look. Since Juvederm® treatments do not include incisions or sutures, there is minimal downtime. Patients will have pre- and post-treatment care instructions, but are generally free to return to their regular daily activities with no interruption.

Though the results are long lasting, patients often schedule routine visits to Cirillo Cosmetic Dermatology Spa so they can maintain their more youthful look. Juvederm® can be safely administered repeatedly over time with patients never returning to their pre-Juvederm® look.

Alternatives or Complementary Treatments to Juvederm®

While the Juvederm® family of fillers can be customized for each patient’s individual needs, we offer all FDA-approved fillers that can be used in conjunction with the Juvederm® family of fillers to achieve every patient’s desired results.

Depending upon the type, location, and cause of your lines, wrinkles, and folds, your cosmetic dermatologist may recommend a combination of fillers. If your wrinkles are dynamic (formed by muscle motion), Victoria A. Cirillo-Hyland, MD, and her dermatology team may also recommend neuromodulators such as BOTOX®, Dysport®, or Xeomin®.

Our cosmetic dermatology team always tailors treatment to each individual patient’s needs to achieve their desired results. Our team may combine Juvederm® with other dermal fillers and injectables, or with other technologies such as lasers, lights, radiofrequency, or ultrasound.
