What Are Preventative BOTOX® Face Treatments?

Botulinum toxin type A wrinkle injections are typically used for corrective purposes once wrinkles have already become established on the face.  BOTOX® can also be used in anticipation of wrinkle development. As a preventative, face BOTOX® treatments are often used in the areas where we can see wrinkles starting to develop but not yet becoming deep creases. By relaxing certain muscles that are overly expressive, you may be able to prevent wrinkles from becoming worse or from forming in the first place.

This treatment is ideal for patients who have expressive faces and are more likely to develop “dynamic” wrinkles, which form from repetitive facial movements.

A preventative BOTOX® treatment for the face is similar to a standard face BOTOX® treatment. To better help us evaluate your facial muscles and wrinkles, we will ask you to make several facial expressions.

What Are the Most Common Types of Face BOTOX® Treatments?

There are many upper and lower face BOTOX® injection sites available for patients. BOTOX® for forehead wrinkles reduces horizontal lines above the eyebrows, under eyes BOTOX® reduces horizontal wrinkles and the “jelly roll” muscle below the eyes, and BOTOX® for crow’s feet smooths fine lines next to the eyes. A BOTOX® brow lift relaxes muscles to allow the eyebrows to lift and open up the eyes. Patients sometimes will call this a “BOTOX® facelift.”

When it comes to the lower face, BOTOX® can also be beneficial.  BOTOX® for marionette lines reduces wrinkles that extend from the corners of the mouth to the chin, while bunny lines BOTOX® smooths lines that develop to the sides of the nose. Treatments can also address a dimpled chin, neck bands, lip lines, and smile lines, as well as help the upper lip appear fuller.

Masseter BOTOX® improves the appearance of bulky muscles in the jaw area to provide a slimmer, more oval, or heart-shaped face. DAO muscle BOTOX® helps lift downturned corners of the mouth, while trapezius BOTOX® gives the neck and shoulders a slimmer look. BOTOX® for face sweating is another popular use, though our practice commonly uses the injectable for sweating on the underarms, hands, and feet.

BOTOX® for migraines and BOTOX® for TMJ are other approved uses, though these are not available at Cirillo Cosmetic Dermatology Spa.

Which Cosmetic Procedures Complement BOTOX® Face Treatments?

Cirillo Cosmetic Dermatology Spa provides many other types of minimally invasive or non-invasive treatments for skin rejuvenation, including microneedling, dermaplaning, microdermabrasion, and laser skin resurfacing.

Dermal fillers can often be combined with full face BOTOX® treatments to address several areas of the face at the same time and provide more comprehensive improvements. They work differently for enhancing the face. BOTOX® softens dynamic wrinkles, while fillers are designed for static wrinkles and volume loss. Sculptra® and Radiesse®, biostimulatory fillers, promote the production of collagen and elastin to gradually plump skin, while Juvederm® and other hyaluronic acid fillers add volume right away to select areas to improve wrinkles and facial contouring.
