What made you interested in becoming a Physician Assistant?

I became interested in medicine when I was 18 working during the summer as a dialysis technician. I loved the trust and relationships I built with the patients I treated. After my freshman year as a Pharmacy student, I switched my major to Physician Assistant Studies. I knew it would be a better fit for me so that I could have more direct patient contact.

What brought you to Dermatology?

I choose the field of Dermatology as an elective during my year of rotations to learn more about the skin. I quickly fell in love because of all the different entities like treating skin cancer, treating children with acne and treating people cosmetically, I am never bored and I am always learning because I am surrounded by some of the most intelligent Physicians on the East Coast.

What is one thing you love about your job?

I love running the iPLEDGE®Program. iPLEDGE®is a mandatory distribution program in the U.S. for isotretinoin (sold under the trade name Accutane). It is intended to prevent the use of the medication during pregnancy due to the high risk of birth defects.
As Bryn Mawr Skin & Cancer Institute’s director of iPLEDGE®, I treat children and young adults with severe acne. I start treating these patients at young ages and I see them grow up into wonderful adults with beautiful acne free skin. I witness their confidence level increase and their personalities blossom.

What advancements in Dermatology are the most exciting?I get extremely excited over the new Cosmetic technologies, the science behind them is amazing. Non-invasive fat reduction is advancing in the most interesting ways. We can freeze fat away, heat fat away, ultrasound fat away…and now we can reduce fat and build muscle at the same time with EMSCULPT. It is unbelievable!

Personal Life?

I am married 13 years to my supportive husband.  We have 2 boys ages 11 & 8 who love to play baseball. Most of my time away from the dermatology practice is spent at the ball field watching them play. In the summer, we enjoy going to the beach and camping.  I also love to read and watch documentaries on Netflix.
