What Are the Different Types of Clostridium Botulinum Toxin Injections for Wrinkles?

BOTOX®, Daxxify, Dysport®, Xeomin®, and Jeuveau® are all injectable treatments containing botulinum toxin. BOTOX® is the original type of botulinum toxin type A injection that was the first to be approved. It is approved for forehead wrinkles, frown lines, and crow’s feet. Dysport® can treat frown lines, but due to its molecular weight, this botulinum toxin treatment is less potent than BOTOX®. As it has a higher rate of diffusion, it is better for treating larger areas like the forehead. What sets Xeomin® apart from these other two injectables is that the botulinum toxin in it isn’t blended with complexing proteins, thus resulting in a decreased risk of allergic reactions. Daxxify is a new, peptide-enhanced botulinum toxin type A injectable that lasts for up to six to nine months.

Which Cosmetic Procedures Are Available Aside from Botulinum Toxin Type A Injectables?

Cirillo Cosmetic Dermatology Spa also offers treatments in addition to botulinum toxin type A injections. Facial fillers such as hyaluronic acid fillers (Restylane®, Juvederm®, RHA®) and biostimulatory fillers (Radiesse®, Sculptra®) can also be effective for wrinkles. They work differently than botulinum toxin type A treatments in that fillers add temporary volume and lift to areas where they are injected.

Although forehead BOTOX® or botulinum toxin type A injections for wrinkles on the forehead are highly effective, the use of forehead fillers is much less common and may not be recommended by most injectors due to the risks associated with the approach.

Other types of skin rejuvenation options—such as microneedling, dermaplaning, microdermabrasion, and laser skin rejuvenation—also soften wrinkles, but they address concerns that can’t be treated with botulinum toxin type A injections alone.
